The South Carolina Department of Insurance’s

South Carolina Insurance Data Security Act goes into effect January 1, 2019. The Act is designed to protect personal information, managed by insurance agencies, brokers, and carriers in South Carolina, and all states writing business in South Carolina, from cybersecurity threats.

The Act was designed to establish standards for data security and for the investigation of, and notification to, the Director for the South Carolina Department of Insurance of a cybersecurity event applicable to licensees.
